Sinoć se održala 75 dodjela BAFTA (British Academy Film and Television Arts) filmskih nagrada u Royal Albert Hallu u Londonu. S obzirom na to da je prošlogodišnja dodjela održana virtualno zbog pandemije Covida- 19, Britanska se Akademija pobrinula da povratak fizičke dodjele bude što grandiozniji i sjajniji. Domaćin dodjele bila je poznata australska komičarka Rebel Wilson, a više od 7 000 glasača je odlučilo o pobjednicima što daje predviđanje onoga što bi i Oscari mogli učiniti za dva tjedna.
BAFTA dodjelu filmskih nagrada otvorila je legendarna velška pjevačica Dame Shirley Bassey s pjesmom „Diamonds are Forever“, glazbenim klasikom filma o James Bondu. Rebel Wilson odradila je odličan posao kao domaćin unoseći dašak komedije u ovu ozbiljnu i formalniju dodjelu nagrada s obzirom na mnoge druge dodjele. Film „Dune“ briljirao je osvojivši najviše BAFTA nagrada, ukupno 5: najbolja kinematografija, najbolji specijalni vizualni efekti, najbolji zvuk i najbolji score. Glavnu nagradu najboljeg filma proglasio je glumac Tom Hiddleston, a pobjedu je odnio „The Power of the Dog“, Netflixova vestern-drama. Film je također dobio nagradu za najbolju režiju, a u ime režiserke filma Jane Campion preuzeo ju je glavni glumac filma Benedict Cumberbatch koji je za ovu prigodu stavio bedž plavo-žute boje kao potpora Ukrajini. Iako je Benedict nominiran za najboljeg glavnog glumca, pobjedu u toj kategoriji odnio je Will Smith za film „Kralj Richard“.
Na ovogodišnjim nagradama ovaj je put nominirano više žena nego ikad prije. Briljantna glumica Ariana DeBose osvojila je nagradu za najbolju sporednu glumicu u filmu „The West Side Story“, dok je svoju prvu BAFTA nagradu dobila britanska glumica Joanna Scanlan za najbolju glavnu glumicu u filmu „ After Love“.
